Winter Activities
Susitna
River Lodging offers a year round vacation experience, and winter is
certainly no exception! Bring your snowmachine and make use of our
large staging area and marked trails that will lead you into the
Petersville Trail System, just four miles away. Countless miles of
groomed trails and pristine wilderness await! Prefer to use your own
steam to get around? The local trails also offer an ideal cross-country
skiing or snowshoeing route, so you can take your time and enjoy nature
at its finest.
If you’re up for a real
Alaskan adventure, try dogsledding! Talkeetna is home to many of the
Iditarod mushers, and several of them have tourist activities in place,
including kennel tours and guided dog sled trips. If you just prefer to
watch, the Iditarod takes place close by every year, making Susitna
River Lodging a central location for your Alaskan winter getaway.
In
the evenings, Susitna River Lodging is the perfect place to enjoy the
breathtaking Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, as they’re more
commonly known. From the Lodge it’s just a short walk to the village of
Talkeetna, where you can enjoy the world famous Talkeetna Winterfest,
an annual event kicked off by the Bachelor Auction Ball and the
Wilderness Woman Contest. Head to the local restaurants or pubs for
some good food and live music, and if you’re there for lunch, head to
one of the art shows, craft bazaars, or holiday gatherings that are
open to the public during the month of December.
At Susitna River Lodging, we offer everything you could want in a
winter holiday. Whether you simply want to relax in your private cabin
with a good book, raise your adrenaline levels on a snowmachine trip,
take a flight around the summit of Mt. McKinley, or test your mushing
skills on a once in a lifetime adventure, contact us for your winter
vacation now!
